1 Peter Volume 1 of 2
Series12 Disc Set
The Apostle Peter was uniquely suited and divinely appointed to write this letter that bears his name. Not seen is the impulsive and impetuous Peter of the Gospels, who denied his Lord. What we do see is a humble preacher of grace, commissioned to strengthen his brothers (Luke 22:32; I Peter 5:10) in difficult times. These were days of escalating persecution against Christians. The historical setting is either just before or shortly after the burning of Rome in AD 64, by the Roman Emperor Nero. Peter writes this inspired letter to the pilgrim Christians scattered throughout Asia Minor, or modern-day Turkey. His purpose was to teach these believers how to live victoriously in the midst of hostile times. All Christians were called to a future of victory and glory through– not around- – the path of suffering. Peter’s counsel to us is that although we may be mistreated by the world and attacked by Satan and his demons, all Christians are called to maintain a fervent love for each other and an unfailing hope in our future inheritance which is reserved for us in heaven–a future that is secured by nothing less than Jesus Christ, through His resurrection from the dead.
